ABOUT THE GATEHOUSE PROJECT

The Gatehouse Project is heritage-led landscape restoration initiative in Standish, Gloucestershire, within the Cotswold National Landscape. The project is restoring a historic orchard and productive landscape, showing in practice how heritage land management supports biodiversity, climate resilience, sustainable food production and public engagement.

The Gatehouse project is the vision of Ed Lister, co-founder of Planit I.E Ltd Landscape Architects, Urban Designers & Visual Story Tellers who loves coffee…

WHY THIS MATTERS

  • ORCHARD RESTORATION

Historic orchards and traditional productive landscapes are distinctive parts of England’s heritage but are increasingly at risk. Many surviving orchards are unmanaged, limiting opportunities for wildlife and traditional skills.

    OUTCOMES AND PUBLIC BENEFIT

The project conserves historic landscape features, enhances biodiversity and habitat connectivity, improves landscape resilience to climate change and provides opportunities for people to engage directly with heritage land management. Open- access resources and case studies provide guidance that can be adopted by other landowners, community groups and local authorities.

  • PARTNERSHIPS AND SUSTAINABILITY

We are developing partnerships with local organisations and educational institutions to support learning skills development and knowledge exchange. Sustainability will be supported through continued volunteer engagement, diverse practical activity and routine land management

    GET INVOLVED

We welcome enquiries from volunteers, collaborators, educators and funders interested in heritage landscapes, Agroecology and nature based solutions.

We are pleased to be able to offer our space to organisations whose values aligns with ours.

Alongside core project activity, the studio space and cafe are occasionally used by practitioners, educators and small organisations whose work aligns with the project’s values. This enables collaboration, supports public engagement and contributes to the ongoing care and management of the site.

The studio space includes facilities to support meetings, learning and creative work, including a large presentation screen, tea and coffee facilities and flexible seating.

The site offers a sheltered courtyard with outdoor seating, access to beautiful local walks, and opportunities to spend time in the landscape alongside project activity.

Stonehouse Train Station is a 15-minute walk across the fields or a 5-minute cycle. Direct trains to London run every hour (1hr 30mins travel time to London Paddington).

We are 5 minutes from the M5 Junction 12 Northbound and Junction 13 Southbound.

Prices on request for ½ day or full-day hire.
